National Youth Leadership Training 2012

National Youth Leadership Training 2012

What is National Youth Leadership Training?

The National Youth Leadership Training program is an intensive week-long summer experience for upper-ranking scouts, venturers, and sea scouts. Each participant works through a week of indoor and outdoor challenges, with the mentoring of the highly skilled youth staff. Participants are equipped with the basic skills necessary to become leaders in their troops, crews, ships, communities, and future professions. The course is set up to represent a month in the life of a typical Scout unit. Participants will sleep in tents, prepare their own meals by teams, and will be expected to live by the Scout Oath and Law. Failure to do so may result in removal from camp.

What is its purpose?

The aims of NYLT are to give each participant a basic knowledge of various leadership skills while helping them relate these skills to their own troop/crew/ship responsibilities; to give them the confidence and knowledge necessary to run their troop/crew/ship program; to provide an opportunity to share ideas and experiences with Scouts/Venturers/Sea Scouts from other troops/crews/ships; and of course, to have FUN.

Who may attend?

Participants may be any current or future leader in any Scouting position. Also to be eligible to attend, they must be at least First Class in rank and thirteen years of age by January 1, or a registered member of a Venturing Crew or a ship. Each Scout/Venturer/Sea Scout must also have a working knowledge of camping, hiking and cooking IN ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS and have the written approval of their Scoutmaster/Advisor/Skipper
