LHAC Welcomes Two Newest Top Volunteers

The Lake Huron Area Council would like to welcome and introduce our two new District Chairmen.  Vaughn Begick is the District Chairman for Shoreline serving Bay, Arenac, and Ogemaw Counties and Paul Simons is the new District Chairman in Chippewa serving Midland and Gladwin Counties.  District Chairman is the top volunteer position in a district along with District Commissioner. 

Vaughn Begick:

Vaughn was born in Bay City, and graduated from T.L. Handy High School in 1964.  He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1968, and served in US Army 1969-1972 as Clinical Specialist.  He worked as an LPN for one year 1972-73 at Mercy Hospital in Bay City. Then he attended Physician Assistant Program at Duke University from 1973-75 and has been licensed and certified as a PA since then in Michigan. He has worked in Family Practice and Urgent Care for the last 36 years in Saginaw-Bay City area, 18 months in Pinconning, 6 years in Freeland and 21 years at Blue Care Network in Saginaw.  Vaughn's other volunteer committments and accomplishments include: 

-Currently working for Dr. James LaFleur in Family Practice in Saginaw and also working Urgent Care at the Redi-Med in Essexville and     Bay City for the last four years.                                                                                                                                                                                                      -Past President of Michigan Academy of Physician Assistants 1992-93.                                                                                                                           -Served on State Licensing Board for Physician Assistants and Osteopaths for 10 years.                                                                                            -Past Chairman of Salvation Army Advisory Board in Bay City.                                                                                                                                              -Chairman of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bay City.                                                                                                                                                                -Lion’s Club member in Bay City-First Vice President this year.                                                                                                                                           -Just elected to fourth term as a County Commissioner in Bay County.                                                                                                                             -Current Vice-President of Vietnam Veteran’s of America Chapter #494 (Past President of VVA Chapter #494)                                                       -Community fundraising chair for Shoreline District-Lake Huron Council, Boy Scouts of America past two years.                                                   -Served as Cubmaster for pack 3109 for 4 years back in the early 1990's

Vaughn is married to Marjorie and has two grown sons Jeremy and Timothy.

 Paul Simons:

 Paul was born and raised in the state of Missouri, and currently resides with his family in Midland, MI.  Paul’s education background ranges from a bachelors in engineering, a masters in business administration, and was mentored daily by his father/family through the ir family owned business that specializes in specialty meats & sausages.  He currently serves within the Dow Chemical organization.

 Paul earned his Eagle Scout Award through the Greater St. Louis Council in Missouri and is a Brotherhood Order of the Arrow member, which assisted in preparing him for other areas of service at his local church, including Sunday school, youth, and finance.  Additionally, Paul has served in other organizations ranging from education honor societies to mentoring/tutoring children.
