Wow! What an ADVENTURE! The Lake Huron Area Council's Fall Camporee Passport to Adventure, lived up to the name. Over 1,800 Scouts and adult leaders from all 19 counties converged on Alpena's Combat Readiness Training Center, an Air National Guard Training facility, the weekend of September 24- 26th. After a security vehicle check using mirrors and dogs, participants were ready for their adventurous weekend. Scouts took their Passport, a pocketsize booklet detailing the program, listing the schedule, showing a base map, around to the Adventure Areas. As they visited an area, the Passport booklet was stamped or signed. Adventure Areas included: climbing tower, midway, fire training area, silk screening, Civil War cannon firing, obstacle course, 22 rifle and BB gun range, frontier area, Coast Guard and watercrafts - just to name a few! During the day, many gathered signatures from Scouts and adult leaders from the seven districts and the council. The Camporee was topped-off in the evening with a ceremony recognizing the council's units, a power-point slide presentation of the weekend, and a spectacular laser show featuring lights and music over the last 40 years. The Council owes a debt of gratitude to the men and women of Alpena's Combat Readiness Training Center (CRTC) for their service to the event and the use of their facilities. Similarly, a huge THANK YOU goes out to the many Scout volunteers who spent hours planning and organizing this awesome event. Truly, the Camporee weekend of September 24 - 26 was our council's Passport to Adventure!
