Lots of stuff happening up here in the north country in the next several weeks, and a lot more to follow. Looks like we’re stacking up for another busy Scouting season,….so let’s get to it.

DISTRICT DINNER: The Thunderhead District’s Annual Leadership Dinner will be held March 9th, starting at 6:30 P.M. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alpena. If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, they are available from Mike, Jon Dessenberg, Bob Hines and Garnet Tripp. They are $10 each, and well worth the price. Good food, and great fellowship, and a chance for us to recognize our leaders for all their efforts. Come on out for the event.

DISTRICT COMMITTEE MEETINGS: District Committee meetings are held on the 1st Monday of the month at the AMA-ISD Building in Alpena, starting at 7:00 P.M. ALL Scouters are invited to attend. This, and of course, the monthly Roundtable, are the places to let us know where you would like to see the district heading, what activities and events you would like to see the district do, and are forums to let us know what the district committee can do to help you at the unit level. Come on down. We’d like to see a full house! We also need help on the committee in the Cub Scouting arena. Interested in helping keep some of our District Cub Scout events happening? I’ve Jon Dessenberg a call at 354-7847.

SPRING POPCORN: For those of you who didn’t sell enough popcorn in the fall,…here’s an opportunity to do it again! There ARE folk’s who like popcorn in the spring of the year! They really want to buy some more….Really!! If your unit would like to do a spring sale, …give Mike a call at 354-3423,…he’ll help you get it set up! (P.S. He could use some help!!)

ROUNDTABLES: We are asking that each unit make a special effort to have some of your leaders at each month’s roundtable. This year we have had leaders from different packs and troops "host" the Roundtables. They have volunteered their time to prepare and present some excellent programs to take home and use to conduct super programs for your boys. We intend to continue this effort,…but we need more leaders to attend roundtables! This is where the information is presented, and ideas shared. Take advantage of it. I know everyone has busy schedules, … but the roundtables are the most important LEADER events of the month. Put it on your calendar, …and make every effort to attend! You won’t regret it!

SCOUTING FOR FOOD: Once again it is time for us ALL to undertake this critically important community service. After all that has happened in recent months, many of our community food banks have been hit hard, and really need our help. Scouting for Food is a National Level Community Service Project done by units throughout the country. We really need to get behind this project and make it happen. You never know,…it may be one or more of our own Scouting families that are receiving this help. It is said that on average, most families are only one or two paychecks away from needing help. Bags will be available at March and April Roundtables.

SUMMER CAMP: Rapidly coming up on final planning and payment dates to attend summer camps. Don’t let your Scouts miss out on the opportunity to attend. Let’s try to get them all to camp this year. Mike is still offering to take Scouts to camp with his unit. Got Scouts that want to go to camp, but no leaders to take them? Give Mike a call at 354-3423.

CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP: Now is the time to start getting your Cub Scouts registered for Day Camp. We’re looking at having another great program this year. Robin Cecil and her Day Camp Staff have some special stuff planned for this year. Come on out, and enjoy the fun! Questions? Call Mike or call Robin at 471-2677. By the way,…Robin says she can still use some help if you’re interested!

WEBELOS LEADER TRAINING: April 26th-28th at Paul Bunyan Scout Reservation, for all leaders who are, or intend to work with WEBELOS this next season. Great training session,…and a lot of fun to boot! Need more information? Call Mike.

COMMISSIONER'S COMMENTS: We have some really great qualified and dedicated Scouter’s out there serving in the role of Unit Commissioner’s. They are there to help you get the answers to "burning questions", direct you to valuable resources, and to help you solve problems that might be occurring in your units. If you don’t know who your unit commissioner is, call Garnet at 742-4218. All units should have an assigned commissioner. If yours doesn’t, maybe you can work with Garnet to identify a former Scouter in your community who would be willing to help.

That’s it for this edition. Have a Great Day, …and,… oh,…by the way,…..keep doing that GREAT Scoutin’!!!
