Friends of Scouting campaign is currently going. Please make sure every family from your unit has been given the opportunity to contribute to Scouting. If your unit has not signed up or had a FOS presentation, please schedule one by calling your district executive, Chris Shay. Also, if you know of any community members of businesses interest in contributing to Scouting, please contact your district executive.

Roundtable is set for April 10th and is going to be held in Coleman. It is a potluck style event and will start at 6:00 pm. For more information contact the Service Center.

Scouting for Food bag distribution is set for April 13 and collection is on April 20. Midland units make sure your unit is signed up with Dave Bakke at 631-6242 for an area of Midland and also coordinate with surrounding units so that there is no overlap. The bags will be available at the March roundtable.

Spring Camporee is May 3-5. To help make sure it is an awesome event we will have planning meetings before each District Meeting at the First United Methodist Church in Midland. Ideas for themes include disaster readiness/emergency preparedness. The idea is to have advancement and a competition component in it. The location is still yet to be determined. All Boy Scout leaders are invited to attend.

Day Camp is coming in June. Please make sure all your Cubs sign up for it and that you mark your calendars so you can help too. Day Camp is one of the most exciting weeks a boy will have in his Cub Scout career. Please make sure you promote it at your Pack meetings. For help with promotional materials please contact your district executive.

Boy Scout Leader Training Opportunities - We have scheduled a number of training sessions for Boy Scout leaders in the coming months. Based on recent analysis, approximately 50% of the adults are trained for their current position.  To meet our goal of 100% trained
leaders, we want to encourage everyone to take advantage of the following training sessions:
March 23 - New Leader Essentials and Troop Committee Training, 9:00 am to 11:00 am and 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, respectively, Trinity Lutheran Church, in Midland.

April 20 - Boy Scout Leader Specific Training (classroom parts 1, 2, and 3), 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Trinity Lutheran Church in Midland. Scouters interested in these training sessions are asked to register by calling Gary Klecka at 989-636-7852 or e-mail at gklecka@chartermi.net.  In addition to currently registered Boy Scout leaders, we also encourage participation of any Cub Scout leaders that will be joining the Boy Scout program in the future.

Chippewa District Scouters are also encouraged to attend the outdoor training course being offered by the council.

May 17 to 19 - Boy Scout Leader Outdoor Leader Skills Training, Paul Bunyan Scout Reservation   (Note for Scouters from the Chippewa District:   A mandatory pre-course meeting will be held on April 27 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, Midland.

Remember, if you are a new adult leader, to fulfill "basic training" requirements, all Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters need New Leader Essentials, Boy Scout Leader Specific Training, and Boy Scout Outdoor Leader Skills.   All Committee Chairs and Troop Committee Members need New Leader Essentials and Troop Committee Training at a minimum, and are encouraged to attend leader specific and outdoor skills training as described above.
Training is essential to delivering a quality program to our youth.  Are you "Delivering the Promise"?

CUB SCOUT LEADER TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES - Training is just as important for Cub Scout leaders as it is with Boy Scouts leaders. For information on training events for Cub Scout leaders contact Larry Ruhr at (989) 837-9771 or email him at lpruhr@chartermi.net. There is a Cub Scout Leader Basic Training scheduled for March 16th. Also, if you have a number of leaders in your unit that need training you can contact Larry and set up a date for him to train your unit leaders.
