It's time again to think about helping all 2nd year Webelos move on to the next step in their Scouting journey. The packs and troops both have a role in this process. Read on for the best methods. It should be the goal of the Cubmaster and Webelos den leader to graduate every Webelos Scout into a Boy Scout troop. To accomplish this, the pack should begin promoting Boy Scouting when Cub Scouts are still in their Tiger, Wolf, and Bear Dens, and sell the sizzle of the great outdoors. Scouting should be viewed as an on-going adventure and the progression should be as normal as moving from elementary school to middle school. PACK RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop a working relationship with the troop leaders and coordinate activities. Secure den chiefs from nearby troops. Coordinate troop visits and Webelos overnight activities with troops Invite the Scoutmaster and troop youth leaders to pack activities and your crossover ceremony. Encourage Webelos leaders to move into the troop with their boys.
The Boy Scout Troop Boy Scout troops should assign an assistant Scoutmaster or a troop committee member to be responsible for new Scouts, which would include developing a relationship with the Cubmaster and the Webelos den leaders. This person serves as a resource during Webelos den activities and builds the enthusiasm among youth and their parents for the exciting challenges that await them in Boy Scouting. TROOP RESPONSIBILITIES:
Select Scouts to serve as den chiefs for each Webelos Scout den and Cub Scout den. Serve as a resource for overnight activities. Conduct Webelos den/Scout troop campouts to show Scouts and parents expectations of the troop. Arrange for Webelos dens to visit a troop meeting. Provide each Webelos Scout a copy of the troop's activities for the upcoming year. Encourage Webelos den leaders to become committee members or assistant Scoutmasters in the troop. Conduct a troop orientation to cover the meaning of the Scout Oath and Law, the advancement program, troop camping, the patrol method, summer camp, and personal equipment. Work with the Cubmaster in planning a meaningful crossover ceremony at the Pack's Blue and Gold Banquet.

A new youth protection video #AV09001A is available at the LHAC Service Center. This 46:10 video is a revised version of the old 65 minute Youth Protection Training Guidelines for Leaders and Parents. Every unit should have an adult trained in youth protection. It is a requirement for the Quality Unit Award. This updated video will be part of all basic trainings. It is recommended that anyone who hasn't had youth protection training in the last three years be recertified. The training is still available online.

their unit and pass the materials to that individual. This packet includes: a timetable, instructions, a sample press release, and all needed sign-up forms. The district Scouting for Food chair will contact units, meet with them at roundtables, and work to map out areas in larger urban and suburban communities to avoid overlap. Watch for more information and be prepared to do your Scouting "Good Turn", Scouting for Food!
