Fall Recruitment

We all know that Scouting is a year-round program and kids can join at any time.  However, our major Cub Scout membership push is in the fall.  This allows youth a full 12 months to complete each grade level of the program.  Units that follow the basic steps below will have a successful kickoff to their Scouting year.
1. Attend your program planning kickoff and round-up training session through your district  or council.  (April-August)
2. Have your existing leaders lined up and trained.  (April-August)
3. Conduct an annual pack program planning conference (June-August)
4. Establish the date, time, location and a back-up date for your fall round-up.  (July- early  August)
5. Do a media blitz in your neighborhood, community and school prior to the round-up  recruitment.  Do school talks if allowed. (late Aug-mid Sept)
6. Have existing Scouts wear their uniform to school the day of the round-up/recruitment.   (late Aug-mid Sept)
7. Conduct the round-up/recruitment event.  (late Aug-mid Sept)
8. Follow-up with all boys unable to attend the round-up
9. Provide training to the new leaders. (mid Sept-Early Oct)
10. Conduct an outdoor activity for new boys and parents (or invite to a district/council event)  (mid Sept-mid Oct)
11. Follow-up with den leaders to make sure each den has had a new parent/boy orientation  and that they are   meeting on a regular basis.  (monthly- Oct- Dec.)
This is a simplified summary of the plan outlined in folder
Fall Roundup Resources for the Pack.  Each Cub pack will receive a copy of this and other fall recruitment information at your district program kickoff.  Contact your District Executive for dates, times, and locations, or look in your district section of this issue.
