Webelos Leader Outdoor Training is a fun outdoor experience for all Webelos leaders and upcoming Webelos leaders. It has been proven to be an enjoyable and necessary tool to help you prepare young men to get the most out of the Scouting program and outdoor experience. All you need to do is listen to WLOT staff and participants reminisce about their time at this training event to be envious of what you've missed out on. Don't hesitate to register for this experience and get your chance at all of the fun. W.L.O.T will be held at Paul Bunyan Scout Reservation from October 3rd, Friday evening to Sunday, October 5th. Find out what all the fuss is about! Fliers will be available at your September roundtable or you may call the LHAC office to have a registration form sent to you.

Top Ten Reasons Scout Troops Should Associate with Venturing

Venturing can keep older boys, ages 14-18, engaged in the troop longer Venturing's new advancement program offers Scouts new challenges. Venturing offers older Scouts challenging activities with boys and girls their own age. Venturing offers additional leadership experience and training that can benefit the troop. Venturing advancement requires Venturers to teach what they have learned to other groups. Scouts ages 14 to 18 and adult leaders can be members of both a Boy Scout troop and a Venturing crew. Older Scouts in the troop, especially troop leaders, are expected to participate in both units. Venturers who are First Class and above can continue to work on Eagle Scout rank requirements. A Venturing crew associated with the troop gives Scouts something to anticipate as they get older. Venturing can help solve many of the Scoutmaster's challenges:
o Challenging older Scouts while continuing to attract and retain younger Scouts o Competing with older Scout's growing interests: cars, girls, and high school o Giving leadership/role model opportunities to all older Scouts

As one of America's largest youth-serving organizations, we continually address important issues that impact young people; among these is youth protection. We are committed to making the Scouting environment as wholesome as possible for our youth members and adult volunteers. Youth Protection Training for adult leaders and parents is available via the council web site www.lhacbsa.org. Simply log on the youth protection training link of the council Web site and begin the training, which concludes with a test. To complete the training, a passing score of 80 percent must be achieved. Upon completion of the training, the volunteer will provide their name, address, e-mail address, and council information. Once this information is submitted, the volunteer's name will be matched through the council's database of registered leaders. If the name is matched, the volunteer will receive a certificate of completion, letter from our Scout Executive, and council youth protection reporting procedures. If the name is not matched, the volunteer will receive everything but the certificate of completion. The volunteer may then take this information into the council service center to prove completion of the training. As of January 1, 2003, the BSA tour permit policy requires at least one youth protection-trained leader on all trips and outings requiring a tour permit. Completion of either this online youth protection training or our traditional youth protection training meets this requirement. Once training is completed it is recommended but not required to review the guidelines at least every two years. We believe the critical importance of protecting our youth from abuse or violence will be recognized by all and that parents and leaders will take comfort and pride in the steps we are taking.
