Serving the Youth of Northeastern Michigan

Tuesday May 11th, the Midland Site presented to Brian Nastase, Scout Executive & CEO Lake Huron Council of the Boy Scouts of America, a large grill for use at Paul Bunyan Scout Camp. Scout staff came to the Dow Corning Midland Site requesting support in constructing a grill large enough to cook and serve meals for large groups of kids attending various camping activities throughout the year.

Midland’s skilled trades, members of the United Steel Workers Local 12934, embraced the challenge of designing and building a custom grill. The design and construction used spare metal and materials from the Site. Members from the Electric, Machine, Millwright, Paint and Pipefitters/Welders shops constructed the grill, as time allowed, over a two month period.  “ The involvement of our skilled trades in designing and constructing this grill is an illustration of the talent and character of people we have working at the Midland Site, and their commitment to meeting the needs of the youth of our communities,” commented  Jim Smith, Midland Site Manager.
