Climbing Tower Instructor Training at Camp Rotary
Cancelled
Climbing Tower Training at Camp Rotary
This course is open to all registered Scouters who are 18+ years of age and includes 24 hours of instruction in climbing, COPE, and rappelling equipment, techniques, and safety procedures. Applicants will receive a booklet of important information to be reviewed prior to arriving at camp Saturday morning (September 11). The course will begin at 9:00 am on Saturday, September 11 and conclude by 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 12. All participants will also be trained in BSA’s Climb On Safely, which is good for 2 years. Instructor certification expires December 31, 2011 and may be renewed through participation in Challenge Course events and training updates.
The course fee is $40.00, which includes all course materials, climbing gear usage, lodging, and 4 meals. Upon receipt of your application and fee, a course booklet will be sent to you. The booklet will include a brief list of equipment you should bring with you. You will not need to bring any specialized climbing equipment.
How will becoming a trained climbing instructor save you money? Simply put, every qualified and current instructor you bring with you when your unit reserves the tower at Camp Rotary or PBSR is one less instructor that you need to pay for. Camp will provide the lead Instructor, however, groups of 18 participants require 2 Instructors. Groups of 24 participants require 3 Instructors. Having your own trained Instructor can save your unit $75 to $150 on your next tower outing!
This course will be limited to the first 24 paid participants. Registration deadline is September 6, 2010. If you have questions, please contact Jim Murphy at jimurph@chartermi.net or 989-989-689-6345.
