Regional Venturing Leader Award Presented to Cliff Aldrich
On November 20th, Jeff Geralds, Boy Scouts of America Area 2 Venturing Advisor, attended the Lake Huron Area Council Venturing Officers Association meeting held at the Gerace Scout Service Center, in Auburn, MI. Mr. Geralds stated that: “LHAC continues to utilize Venturing in a model fashion by offering exceptional leadership from their youth officers and outstanding support from the advisors and professional staff. During the meeting, Christine Henriquez, Jim and Cindy Barnes, and Jeff Geralds presented Cliff Aldrich with the Region Venturing Leadership Award. Mr. Aldrich was surprised to have many advisors, his family, and Brian Nastase, Scout Executive for the Council at the presentation. The Region Venturing Leader’s award is awarded to only 6 adult recipients each year. Mr. Geralds offered his congratulations by saying: “We are very pleased to have one awarded in our Area to such a dedicated Venturing and Sea Scouting leader as Cliff.”
Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 years of age or 13 years of age and have completed the eighth grade, and under 21 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.
The program of every Venturing crew revolves around a special avocation or hobby interest. What a Venturing crew does is limited only by the imagination and involvement of the adult and youth leaders and members of the crew. Venturing is not for young boys and girls but rather for young adults. They are able to do more and go further as a Venturer or Sea Scout in a Venturing crew or Sea Scout ship.
Venturing provides the skills needed for young adults to make ethical choices, experience a fun program full of adventure and challenges, acquire leadership skills, and to take advantage of opportunities to advance their skills and knowledge in the areas of high adventure, sports, arts, hobbies, religious life, and Sea Scouting.
