Training Requirements for 2012

The National Council of the Boy Scouts of America has set the training requirement for all units to re-charter in 2011.  “All TOP LEADERS” will be trained in their positions as well as all registered leaders will be up to date on their Youth Protection Training.  For Youth Protection Training, your must have taken Youth Protection in the last two years.  For Top Leaders, you must be trained for your position.  Ie: Scoutmasters would have Youth Protection, Fast Start, This is Scouting, Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster specific training and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.  Cubmasters would have Youth Protection, Fast Start, This is Scouting, and Cubmaster Specific Training.  Crew Advisors would have Venture Youth Protection, Fast Start, This is Scouting, Venture Leader Specific Training.  Skippers would have Venture Youth Protection, Fast Start, This is Scouting, and Sea Scout Leader Basic Training.

For 2012 all Direct Contact Leaders will be trained in their positions.  This means that if a leader has direct contact with a youth (ie: outings, meetings, etc.) then they will have to be trained with Youth Protection, and the Specific Leader Training for their position.  This means that all Assistant Leaders (Cubmaster , Scoutmaster, Crew Associate Advisor)  All Den Leaders (Tiger Cub, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos and their assistants) and any other registered leaders that have contact with youth must take the required training for their position.  LHAC is offering many opportunities to meet these requirements now and in the future.  For all of the latest training opportunities in the LHAC, click here. To take advantage of the many online training opportunities offered through the National BSA website, click here.  Lastly, click here for the latest on BSA training information from the National BSA website.

Please note that beginning on January 1, 2012, This Is Scouting will no longer be required.  It will be a supplemental training.  Also, Fast Start Training is no longer required.
